Junior Sharks Vs Brothers

Junior Sharks Weekend and Wednesday Round Up

Compliments of newsport.com.au

On Saturday 8th August, the Junior Sharks travelled to Mann Street to take on Brothers and Lightning for an afternoon of fantastic footy.

The Under 7’s played at 1.00pm and due to lots of commitments ended up with only 10 players for the 40 minutes. They did quite well with Derrick Sorensen scoring a full field try in the 3rd and Bronson Ryan running the length of the field to score in the 4th. Brothers however proved a bit stronger than our little fella’s and won with a convincing 7 tries to 2.

The Under 8’s faced two 40 minutes games on the agenda against Brothers. This team was under manned as well with a few of the boys having other commitments. In the first game against Brothers Blue our boys were all over them and won the game convincingly 48-12. Try scorers were Kalepo Tusa 2, Tom Walker 3, Billy Kadwell 2, Trae Kaitara 2, Lachlan Buzza 2. Odie Turnbull played really well also and nearly scored in the corner but was disallowed. Man of the Match went to Billy Kadwell. In the 2nd game against Brothers White, this bigger team of Brothers boys were fresh against our tired boys. They were 3 tries up in the 2nd quarter when the Brothers team called the game off. Our boys did not score any tries in this game, but all the boys put their heart and soul into it. Man of the Match for this game was Lachlan Buzza.

The U9 continued their exceptional form this week, winning both of their games at Mann St. The Sharks managed to score 20 points to Redlynch’s 4, with tries from Cody Port, Callum Mather, Xavian Pitt and Austin Tayley. Man of the Match went to Xavian Pitt for a great improvement in his game, and great defence from Cody Port and Kalani Tusa earned them a Coaches Award. In the second match against a once superior Brother’s team, the Sharks played outstanding football to defeat them 12-4. Tries were scored by Trazane Cobb-Fischer, Austin Tayley and Kalani Tusa. Lawson Van Rhine’s drastic improvement in both attacking and defence earned him the Man of Match, with Lennox Schonenberger and Zachary Osborne both awarded Coaches Awards for their efforts on the day.

U10’s took on Brothers and had a win 36-6. Despite the scoreline,Brothers put up a hard game against the Sharks who were lethargic with numerous mistakes throughout the game. Brothers tested the Sharks several times on their try line, but with some strong defense they held them out.Try scorers were Lachlan Wilson 3,Tully Cartwright 1, Matt Chesterfield 1,Khyl Walker 1. Man of the Match Awards went to Lachlan Wilson and Samaria Denman.

The U11’s Wednesday night game was a win 18 – 4 against Kangaroos with Sam Roberts and Quinlyn Cannon earning Man of the Match and then backed up on Saturday with a top of the table clash with Brothers Blue which ended in a 6 all draw. With not much possession, the team really had to dig deep to hold out the constant raids from a much bigger forward pack. Levi Williams and Harry Walker earned themselves Man of the Match with special coach’s mention to Ethan Ross who has taken his game to another level this year.

U12 Sharks travelled to Cairns on the Wednesday night to play Kangaroos at Smithfield. Sharks defended well against the big forward pack from Roos. The boys made a couple of errors which Roos capitalized on. Sharks never gave up till full time siren went. Ross came out on top 14-10. The Sharks then had to back up 3 days later to play Brothers. The boys showed great courage to back each other up and scored two great tries. Sharks won 12-8. The boys have a bye this weekend to recover. Man of match goes to Ethan McCullough and Louie Ganaia. Coach’s award goes to Jagger Ablett and Oatis Husband.

The U13’s played really good in patches against Brothers blue on the weekend but not enough to help them win the game, going down 32-10. Man of the match was Ben ‘The Axe’ Pascoe and players’ player was Aidan Chesterfield.
