Sharks and Tully in nailbiter
After a long trip to Tully, the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks clashed with the Tully Tigers with mixed results. There was no C Grade game so the first game of the night was the Young Guns, the Under 18’s. Even with a couple of key team members absent and after a slow start, the Under 18’s showed great determination to win 24-14.
Try Scorers were Jesse Hore, David Oui, Damien Pitcher with 1 try each, Robert Scomazzon with 2 and Trevor Port converted 2. A great effort was put in by Damien Pitcher who was named Man of the Match. The Reserve Grade game against a 3rd placed Tully was a one way affair, Tully eventually winning 56 – 16. Reserve Grade Coach Ian Steley commented that the team would need to focus on fitness to stay in touch with the top 5 and remain competitive this season. Jason Peterson scored 1, Bradley Creek scored 2 and Leif Alveon converted 2.
Man of the Match honours went to Zai Tamou. The A Grade game was drawn 18 all at half time and both teams battled to score in the second half with Tully eventually scoring and converting to win 24 – 18. Nigel Santarossa, Matthew Wray scored 1 try each, Aaron Lewis scored 2 and Coach Mitch Mahon converted 1.
This week’s A Grade Man of the Match was Jackson Demler. After three weeks break, which includes Easter weekend and then a bye, the next game is at home on Saturday, April 25th against Atherton Roosters, commencing with C Grade at 2.30pm.
